Default Maybe Crazy - I've got an idea for a Clothes Exchange

I've been thinking, what I would REALLY love to do is start a Thinner Times clothes exchange. That way when people need to clean out their closets they could just ship that crap right out of their hair LOL

And when someone needs a couple outfits to get them through their weeks at that size there would be something on hand to ship out to them (they'd only need to pay the cost of postage).

I think if it was set up that way, and people returned what they used after it got too large, there would be something there for almost everyone at any stage of weight loss.

Heck I could even host an online catalog of photos of the items! Would make a great 'summer project' for me to get it going.

a version of this might be having a "credit" system - ie: a shirt credit or pants credit or whatever... kind of like paperbackswap.com.. you mail a book to someone you get a "credit" then you can ask for someone else's book and they get a credit..

seems like a lot of work so more power to ya if you can get it going

Thanks for the credit idea, that's a good one!

As for the amount of work, I'm certain I can turn this into a school project somehow. I've got a databases course this summer

So, who has stuff they need to get rid of and would like to help me get this started?

I would be interested in doing something like this. I just cleaned out my closet and have 2 bags of cloths right now.

Well, I don't have my surgery until May 29, but I think this is a great idea. But, it's going to be a LOT of work! Think of the logistics of where to keep all of the clothes, the shipping costs, boxing it up, getting it to the post office, etc.

which is why I recommend a credit system rather than being a clearinghouse - let people mail to each other with Angel being the one to keep track.

Oh ok, I just re-read, and now I understand. Please forgive me, I'm (dark) blond.

I'm not sure the best way to handle it. I was thinking of centralizing all the stuff (and I'd just keep it in bins by size). I figured I could set up a paypal or something for people to pay the postage to and I would track 'credits' via a database that I would set up and host online. I thought I could attempt a photo catalog of items so people could actually 'shop' the site for things they prefer.

But it's a great point that it could get out of hand space-wise. I don't have extra rooms to store the stuff (if I did I would gladly do it). I could certainly handle it as long as it wasn't exceeding maybe 10-15 bins but past that it would start to become a concern.

If I were to just keep track of 'credits' for things that were sent to someone else it would certainly be easier for me... but I think the whole concept would lose a lot of appeal to people that may want to clean out their closet and ask for nothing in return. Also, it would be hard to earn 'credits' if you couldn't find anyone who wanted the things you had to offer.

I'm certainly open to suggestions, or if anyone has ample space and is interested in teaming up on the project and handling the storage aspect let me know. It's the computer part of it that has me most intrigued (the degree I'm working on is computer related), and the opportunity to be of service to a group of people that offer so much support.

Obestiy help does this and I think it works very well.

People post what they want to get rid of, its free on there you just have to pay shipping. I got a box of really nice capris for the summer.

I sent the money via pay pal and added in the pay pal fee so the lady shipping me the clothing wouldnt have to pay that.

Once I am done I plan on relisting them, either on here or over there, so the next person can use them.

I think its a great Idea really.
