It seems to be different for everyone. I used unjury and loved it. The unflavored mixes with almost anything. DH could taste the unjury in whatever I put it in and hated it.
DH uses Muscle milk ready to drink and he does well with that. Vitamin Shoppe in our area carries all of the flavors and what I like about Vitamin Shoppes (at least where we live) is that they have a refrigerated section that sells items like this individually, so you don't have to buy several before you know whether or not you can tolerate it. DH loves the Chocolate Milk and Banana Cream. I usually don't like the prepackaged stuff like this, but I have tried a sip of the Chocolate Milk and thought it was good. I may actually drink a whole 1 one of these days.

Also, if you have a Target close by, you can get the Chocolate Milk or Vanilla Cream flavor in a 4-pack for $6.99, each one has 32 gm of Protein.

Oh goodness, I am not alone!!! I hate hate hate hate the protein drinks. I bought some of the vials, ICK, bought some Isopure drinks, ICK, the only thing I have found that I can tolerate so far is Soy Protein from a local store here in Hawaii called Down To Earth. It makes things taste a little more organic but much better than the drinks. I ordered some Unjury. Im crossing my fingers!!!

The dry mouth, ME TOO! I cant stand that. Anyones mouth ever taste funky?

Yeah, I had horrible dry mouth after surgery and brushed my tongue several times a day. It went away after 3 weeks or so. I know a couple of my podmates actually got thrush and had to have some sort of medication to fix it, so keep an eye on that.

So sorry for those having trouble with protein. I lived on Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel for weeks after surgery, and then moved on to other kinds. Right now my favorite is Unjury chocolate flavor mixed with heated (to 130 degrees) mix of milk and water and a few teaspoons of sugar-free International Cafe drink mixes (I have chai latte, suisse mocha, and french vanilla flavors and usually mix chai with one of the others). My advice is to keep trying because my tastes continue to change even 6 months out, though now I can tolerate many things I couldn't my first few weeks/months. And I absolutely MUST drink a protein drink every day to keep my protein count up and my calories down. It amazed me when I started tracking my calories again (instead of just protein grams) how trying to eat my protein in just food caused my calorie count to shoot way up. I wasn't eating just lean meat all day every day, so there you go. Good luck, and keep searching the older posts here on the forum, especially in the nutrition section -- many great ideas!

Default Protein

Welcome....While I have not thrown up or dumped (yet) after trying many different ways for protein, I have found two that suits me. Uninjury, at 20 grams a packet and stacker 2 water at 20 grams a bottle of 20 oz, I dont have to much trouble. I take one with my pills first thing in the morning, one for lunch (they have chicken soup) and one just before bed with my evening pills. My stacker 2 water during the day. Thats 80 grams of protein plus 34 oz of liquid plus the other protein and liquid you take in should take care of your requirements. Just remember, sip, sip, sip. Do not swallow in big gulps and when sipping, not to many at one time. You may be sipping in more than your stomach can handle thus throwing up. Good Luck and again Welcome to our family!

I have to admit that my first run-in with Nectar wasn't pleasing: I bought a container of the Vanilla from a Smoothie King the last time I was in the metroplex, and I drank it for a little while, but just can't stand it. There's these little black dots floating everywhere and I just can't get it to mix (even in my Bullet). I have around 75% of it left - what a waste of money. But reading all the rave reviews, I'm going to give the brand another try. I just ordered some of the Caribbean Cooler and Natural Fruit Punch from vitacost; I'm praying that these taste even close to as good as they sound. My order should be here by Monday, so I'll let you guys know how the pouch likes these flavors. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Default Soy

I drink soy milk, which is loaded with protein. Try that. I couldn't get much down 2 weeks out either, so don't stress. Just get in what you can...don't try to rush it.

Good luck and hang in there.

Although I'm still pre-op, I just bought the Nectar's Roadside Lemonade and am loving it. I throw in a couple of strawberries and/or banana and mix it in my bullet. I really want to try the cappucino one.

Be really careful with buying protein pre-op. Something that you really like before surgery can make you queasy afterwards if you go through a taste change, and can get expensive if you've stocked up.
