Default Wedding Officiant

Hi Everyone,
Something I've wanted to do for a long time is to become a wedding officiant. I never pursued it before because of my weight -- who would want such an overweight woman to marry them? I've lost more than 75 pounds now and feel good about my appearance.

Anyhow, I have begun this now and want to let you all know. I met with a wonderful couple today and will probably (knock on wood) perform their ceremony on Sept. 7th. My service is called "Simply Beautiful Ceremonies" and can be accessed at simplybeautifulceremonies@cox.net or through www.gatheringguide.com

I take only donations for my services and will travel throughout Southern California. What I may lack in actual experience, I try to make up for in preparation!

Default Ain't it wonderful?

I was ordained so that I could marry members of my family (to other people, not me...) It does get a little odd when you say, "I married my sister, my brother and my nephew..."

I loved sitting down with the bride and groom, talking about the vows they wanted, the commitment they planned to make, and so on, and really enjoyed the ceremony.

Default I'm curious

How does one become a "Wedding Officiant"?

Lisa, your ordained?! Through who?

I almost pursued ordination many years ago. My mom was a minister (ordained by a church in Florida - Universal life (or is it harmony?) - can't remember.

Oh and by the way, those stories about ministers kids - their all TRUE! If I told you the stuff me and other minister kids did, it would curl your hair!

Bless you all in the name of

The Daddy-O, Laddy-O and the Spook!

(I believe God has a sense of humor - and so should we!)

I'm ordained by Universal Ministries, Pat... and the joke is, if you look at the abbreviation, it's UM.... basically, one promises to do no harm. Sort of like the religious version of the Hippocratic oath.

In Texas, as long as the congregants and the minister agree that he/she has the power to marry them, then it's legal and binding, everyone just has to sign the marriage contract.
