Default Wonderin if he'll carry the boards for me now

The school where I work has a fundraising festival every year. This year a very slim attractive friend and I were carrying a stack of boards to set up an event. I was walking backward and she forward. One of the men helping came over and said, This is too heavy for you to carry" and took her end of the boards. He yelled for his friend, I thought to take my end...but nope, he told him to go clear off the area we were taking the boards to. I don't know if it hurt me more that he didn't consider me as "feminine" as her or the way she looked at me with a look that told me she knew what had just happened. I used to be thin and have doors opened for me and all that gentlemenly stuff like that.

I've also watched sales associates offer to help ladies all around me and never acknowledge that I was even there. It hurts so bad to be invisible. Well, not for long!!

I understand that feeling...all too well!

Just remember those people that treat you well prior to surgery are the real "gold standard" friends even post-op!

Do you have your surgery date yet?

Aww... I know the feeling you felt all too well

Like Katz says the ones that treat you right, right now, are the real friends and honestly, it kind of messes with your head a bit when people start noticing you and treating you better.. for a while it seriously pissed me off. Infuriated me, sometimes too.

{{hugs}} to you.. When is your surgery date?

I feel you girl....Just keep your head up and focus on the goal....

Just the other day I was in Dillards ready to spend mad cash on shoes and a hand bag....No one offered to help the whole itme I was browsing. I used to go in there 100lbs thinner and they would be all over me. It was so obvious that I was being ignored that I just left and vowed to never shop there again after I am thin .

I makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one to notice how we can be treated. I am now exactly 2 weeks post-op and am down 19 pounds! I think I too will be a little ticked when I start getting attention I wouldn't have gotten before the surgery. I do have some great friends, who of course are all skinny-minnies, who are so very supportive. They are the ones I will hold on to.

Jeez, I would have just let go of the boards and let them drop right there.

I'd have been more offended if I was the woman told that they were "too heavy" for her to be carrying to be honest. "Benevolent" sexism is still sexism.

You WILL see changes. Honestly. I notice a huge difference in the way people treat me now. I swear I was invisible before. Now men practically trip over themselves to hold the door for me. The other day a guy told me that I look like a super model now (he knew me pre-op). I thanked him for the compliment, but totally disagreed with him.

And it's not just men. I told hubby the other day that I think my parrot (an African Grey who is very wise) actually likes me better now that I'm thin. Last year when I tried to kiss her, she bit right through my lip. Now she'll kiss me anytime and I can pick her up and she'll even cuddle with me. Maybe it's just my perception, but I believe it's true.

Losing weight will open a lot of doors for you (no pun intended).
