As sad as it is...looks do matter! Especially if you are in the "look good" profession. But it's true in almost all aspects...people like others who LOOK GOOD. I've noticed a change in how other's react to me...but then again I've noticed the change in how I react to them too!

I know exactly how you guys feel and feel the same. Although I was once thin and didn't think anything about it until I steadily gained weight and the same people that were "supposed" to be your friends suddenly had other things to do. I guess I was taught a valuable lesson and that is I will never judge a person by their looks alone!

It's true, people want to go to stylists whose style they admire! Congratulations on the jump in business...it may be in part to your clientele sharing how good you are with their friends...it also may be in part to a better amount of energy on your part. Whatever it is, in this economy take it, and enjoy it!

It is probably the energy to match your weight loss that inspires confidence in your clientele - you are ALIVE and kicking, not just doing a job - you energy sends out vibes of confidence, you are "engaged" in what you are doing, there is a new purpose and inner strength in your actions - and THAT is what we all admire in people and make us believe we are worth it, special etc.
Agree with above posters re loss of friends and changes in relationships... A great way of dusting off hangers-on!
Enjoy!
Cheers,
Vim

I'm with Vim on the energy thing.

That coupled with the fact that as we lose weight, without a doubt, the happiness we radiate is unmistakable. You only have to look at the before and after pictures posted here to see that.

With few exceptions, the broad smiles are the first thing people notice and comment on. And I suspect that's true in our day-to-day lives too.

Wait till you see how people will treat you after your surgery. It'll bring out a whole new set of emotions in you.

I agree with the sentiment expressed. There is a book (I just finished it) by Malcolm Gladwell titled "Blink". It talks about first impressions etc. I would recommend it to all. It's (in my humble opinion) one of those "say it ain't so" truths about people. It's the very rare bird who does not sum up the whole without understanding the parts. I try very hard to check my first impressions by getting to know the person. Congrats on the new business, you deserve it.
