Default Question

Ok I have a question or maybe we should call it a concern. My dad who is my life called me today and told me that him and my stepmom would be coming to visit and stay with me the week of my surgery. They will come in on a Saturday April the 23 and stay until April 27th for a visit. Ok first my dad is a home body and never stays anywhere more than 1 night and has never in my married life stayed with me more than once over night I think. Well he does not know that my surgery date is Aril 28th. He does know that I am having the surgery he just did not know my date yet. My question or concern is how hard mentally or physically is it to prepare for the surgery day. I know I will have to do some sort of prep the day before surgery. He plans to leave the morning of the 27th and my surgery is the 28th. I wonder if the distraction will be a good thing or will it be to hard to have company the day before surgery. I love my dad and I see him about 4 times a year he lives about 3 hours from me. His wife has her vacation this week and they want to come and spend it with me and for that I am thankful but just concerned with the timing. What do you guys think would it be to much on me that close to surgery.

Not sure which of the surgeries you're having - but see your dad. Allow him to come. It shouldn't interfere. I had nothing to prep for prior to my surgery. I was surprised, but it was nothing like preparing for a colonoscopy. It was just nothing to eat or drink after midnight.

There will come a day when your dad isn't around. Soak up the opportunity to spend time with him now.

I think it is awesome. First, it will help distract you and two, I am sure they will be very supportive and it might be helpful to share your feelings about surgery just as you go in. You can celebrate your last days of being morbidly obese with a support system-it is all good!
The only hard thing will be not eating with them, assuming your doctor has you on a pre-surgery liquid diet. Just drink and broth yourself to death while they eat!
BTW, I think it is fantastic that your step mother has a vacation and they want to spend it with you. It says nice things about your step mother as well.

Since I really didn't stress over my surgery, I wouldn't have had a problem with family coming to visit. Maybe it would be a distraction to you, but everyone handles stress differently.

I think it will be a good distraction for you. I know my life was really hectic leading up to surgery and in a way it helped me not to have time to worry.
All doctors are different and so are all preps. My prep didn't start till noon the day before.

p.s. my insurance tried to cancel at the last minute so I was REALLY busy

Ok thanks for your help guys I will plan on the visit and look forward to it in a positive way. I have to just do the atkins type diet so I will still be able to eat with them. Also the prep will take place the day they leave a few hours after they are gone so that should not be a problem. I love my dad he has been my life as my mom died when I was 10 and he raised 4 girls and never brought another woman around until I was 17. He will be my rock going into this and has always been 100% supportive of everything I decide to do in life.
The only concern may be that I may not find time to deep clean before surgery but I am sure my honey will take care of the house for a week or so. Ok so now I am excited about the visit. Thanks for always being so helpful

maybe you can do the deep cleaning before they come? It is always nice to have a sparkly clean house when you are expecting company. And that will probably keep everyone cleaning up after themselves. and of course the mother in law might just help you keep it clean. and when they leave you just have a few touch ups and you are all set. Also if your husband is anything like mine then maybe you should think about hiring some cleaners to come in once a week until you get better
