If I read correctly I see you are only 2 months out....it seems @ barely 2 months your pouch may still be sensitive. My dr suggested one year. I didn't quite make it. I had my first drink right before my one year mark I think I was in my 11th month. You are a grown up and can make your own decisions but please be careful as it can become a new addiction. I am sure you didnt have this surgery to ruin it with alcohol.

Hi there. I was wondering how you felt with the drink. Did you find that the one drink effected you differently than before the surgery? Have your tastes changed?

I too am a social drinker and am curious how alcohol will be tolerated (I am currently pre-op). I enjoy an occasional glass of wine with dinner and when at parties, I enjoy a scotch or beer/wine.

Thanks Hugh

Okay, I'm going to take a shot at speaking to this. I would call myself a social drinker too. I never drink at home or typically when I am eating. Once a month or so I'll order wine with a meal out with friends and every other weekend I might have a drink or two at a bar/club.

I have found that I get tipsy FAR quicker and subsequently, the tipsy wears off pretty quick too. I've also had an experience when I took a shot (Buttery Nipple) and then didn't wait my normal hour minimum to have another, and I ended up VERY drunk (dumping as well). Needless to say, it was NOT fun. I learned that lesson the hard way.

I guess what I'm trying to suggest here is take it really slow. Your pouch is very fussy with hard liquor (even mixed) or carbonated beverages. I can rarely ever finish a drink because it's either too sugary or too harsh. I've learned to wait at least an hour between finishing one drink and starting another, but that's rare since I don't often have more than one drink anyway.

Those are my experiences. Maybe others will have more to offer.

I have tried cranberry juice either diet or light with just a splash of vodka. I am not a big drinker and do not like the taste of alcohol. It tasted good and my pouch didnt get pissy.

I didn't try alcohol until I was 8 months out. Now I drink Razz - any flavor seems to be the "thing" for me. Sadly, my personality is one that if I LIKE something a LOT, I will eat/drink it in excess. I have limited my alcohol intake for this reason. It's best to attempt to "Try" things at home, as we all react differently post op from alcohol. For me alcohol hits me quickly and leaves just as quickly. I have to count the empty calories and make sure I make up for them on the tredmill...Sometimes it's best to just go without.

I am 6 months out and can comfortably drink a glass of wine or a vodka Martini. Any more and I am wrecked for about 30 minutes. Beer is definitely a no-no for me. Martinis will have to suffice. I likes em filthy!

Okay - I must be very bad. I guess no one told me the now alcohol rule. I am a litte over a month out and I drank a drink the other day. I had a shot of petrone, lime juice, and a smidge of triple sec (tried to go for a lower sugar margarita of sorts). I sipped and sipped on it for like two hours, and yes seemed to feel tipsy quickly. Just happy tipsy and a bit relaxed. I didn't have any adverse effects or weird feels as far as my pouch reacting weird. Maybe I was lucky that time and best not push it again huh? I'll be a good girl for a few more months.
