Default Lettuce issues

Hi,

I am 2 months post OP. Now that I am able to eat a bit more at a meal I've been trying to get in some salads.... I seem to have trouble with lettuce. Within a 1/2 hour of eating it I start having some discomfort and usually spend some time in the restroom. Is there a know issue with lettuce. I can eat small amounts of tomatoes and most cooked veggies without issue.

Thanks for any advice you may have to offer

Brenda,

I'm only 1 month out from gastric bypass, but from what I've read that many people initially have issues with lettuce. But each person is individual.

I'm hoping I will be able to tolerate salads...I miss them!

Sometimes lettuce goes through me like a freight train, sometimes I'm fine. I can eat the exact same salad 2 days in a row and have different reactions. Ya' never know!

I was told not to start raw veggies until 4-6 months out...I waited till about 5 months and do fine with them in small amts. If I have just a salad it goes right through me!

my doc says that lettuce rolls up like saran wrap and will block that opening into your pouch. but he said that if you chew chew chew alot it "should" be ok

You are brave to try lettuce at 2 months out!! Oye vey - even at 2 years out, I try to pick at the protein in my salad, and inevitably can only get about 2 bites of lettuce in because it hits hard. I think it takes up room in there and just turns to mush.

Default Thanks everyone

Wow,

I wonder if I just missed something from the doctors office. I will definitly stay away from the lettuce for some time. It is such a learning experience that is for sure.

I definitly will continue to focus on the protein although I'm getting tired of chicken and pork. I throw in some shrimp and fish too and I've been looking for other protein that doesn't bother me.

I leave for Aruba on Sunday for a week to celebrate our 30th anniversary and for me it will be a celebration of finally doing something for myself. I'll be brave and put on a swimsuit and enjoy the pool. After all no one there will ever see me again. LOL

If anyone has any travel tips for me I'm all ears.

HAPPY VALENTINE's DAY!!!!
