2 for the price of 1?
Hi everybody, Neal from Ireland here.
So my wife JoJoOC (see introductions and other threads) is having a Gastric Bypass in December, and I've always been overweight too. Currently 17stone 7pounds, after losing maybe 15 or 20 pounds that I've lost before. (Deja vu!)
Thing is, I can lose weight, it's just that I can only do it when Jo is being good with me, so I'm hoping that with her new relationship with food, I will be able to lose all my weight and keep it off. As a kick-start, I'm going to do the same Slimfast diet that the surgeon wants her to do for a month before the surgery. This will also help in that I won't be cooking a load of crap while she's trying to stick to this diet.
Anyone had success in losing the weight in tandem with a family member who had the operation? I'd welcome any tips!

No tips, just want to express how AWESOME that you two are going to get healthy as a team! Makes me have a big smile! She is blessed to have such a committed husband to support her through this journey. Good luck to you with your weight loss also and doing something I could not do for myself. I admire the ones that can get healthy without this major surgery. Wish I could have done that also. Oh.....and welcome to the board and our forum family. We are here for support even if you don't have the surgery!

ok so im glad you want to lose weight and having someone do it with you is great...
if my house was on a diet i wouldnt be in this situation...but the fact is my dad likes his food...
Anyway...
my cousin had Bypass surgery looong time ago...and at first his wife lost weight on a diet of her own way...but has since gained it all back and then some...
BUTTTTT!!!!
between us...i think she was trying to lose weight because she was alittle jealous of the fact he would be losing weight (although he is still a big guy because of his build and they look good together) and she would be the same size...
But you are doing it because you WANT to lose weight and are having trouble doing it alone...so i think you are in a better state of mind to do it...
If shes not motivated to go on walks...maybe you can motivate her...
my cousin wouldnt be gaining his weight back if his wife would push him alittle to exercise...
You can help eachother...i hope i have some support when i get my surgery =/

You know what? It's working so far. As of yesterday, I'm down to 14 stone, and very optimistic about getting to my ideal weight and getting rid of this belly, for the first time since age 13.

Neal, I echo the same AWESOME that you two can work as a team and support each other.
I am 10 weeks post opp and my hubby also joined me in support of heathly eatting and excersise and he has lost 52 lbs! So ya it is kinda like a 2 for 1 here in my home.
Wishing you both much success together. Paula
