My weekend

I had a friend that I have been very close with for about 15 years come and visit me this weekend. We are close enough that I can tell her that she needs to take a shower cause she's funky and she calls me Billy and lets me know it's time for a wax.

Anyway, I had told her of my decision to have WLS and she started crying. She is so happy for me and said that she has missed me so much.

Then she brought to my attention something that I did not realize before. She asked if I knew when I started really packing on the weight. I shook my head and she told me that she remembered the day I came home from the clinic in Okinawa in tears because my PCM had called me obese.

At the request of my PCM I went to the dietitian and was told that I needed to do a fat free diet. This included: 20 oranges per day, only raw veggies, no fruit, fat free milk, 1 slice per day of fat free American cheese. I did this for 2 weeks and felt horrible. I went back to the NUT and was told that I had to be cheating that there is no way I was eating fat free and not losing weight. She then informed me that all I could have was 800 cal. per day. I became obsessed and even changed toothpaste and mouthwash because they had cals. in them. Still the scale did not move. All I knew was I was on migraine meds. had no energy and my entire body was sore.

This is when I started packing on the weight. Even though I wasn't eating hardly anything at all I was putting on weight by eating in my sleep and my body holding everything.

This of course got me thinking. My friend is one of those 5'10, 120lbs that could not gain weight if her life depended on it. She buys full fat everything and eats as much as she wants when ever she wants. I also started looking at the people in the food court at the mall. The "skinny" people were snarffin on Hagan Daaz, and super greasy pizza. Where as the fatties were eating salads and drinking water. Could those things that are supposed to be "good" for us really be doing us in?

Interesting question, my friend! It is observations like these that really make me believe that genetics has more to do with our fat asses than I think some people believe. BTW - I hate your 5'10 120 lb. friend who can't gain weight if her life depended on it...that is, until I become your 5'10 120 lb. friend that can't gain weight if my life depended on it! LOL!!!
