Well, I had 14 tubes of blood drawn yesterday morning and I got my pre op EKG done. I have my appointment with the surgeon on Thursday morning. I hope it goes well. If he treats me like a human being, we'll be off to a good start. If he comes off as a pompous, self righteous jerk, it's going to make this decision and journey a real hard road. Please God, let my surgeon be a nice guy besides being a great doctor?

Oh man! 14 vials!?! They feeding a family of vampires? hahaha! Poor thing.
I know what you mean about hoping the doctor treats me like a human being. I wonder if skinny people feel that worry too. Like, are doctors more likely to treat overweight people like cattle or children or idiots than 'normal' people? Or are doctors just generally condesending? Obviously not all are, and I've had good doctors, but I've had some pretty arrogant and dismissive ones too. Wish you the best! Let us know how your doctor's appointment went. (And eat well to replenish those 14 vials! You will need your strength for surgery!) |

I don't honestly know why they took so much but the tech said that he ordered everything. I asked the tech if it was a pint of blood and she laughed, said not quite but close! As for doctors, A lot of the doctors I've seen in the military are pretty awful. I had one doctor tell me he couldn't be bothered running a thyroid test on me because it would be a waste of taxpayer money. I've had others treat me as if being fat erases any shred of intelligence and talk to me like I didn't have anything to contribute in my health care. There is a general attitude that if you don't care about your health, whey should we? But it's just not doctors, it is society as a whole. It's like being overweight is a license to be abusive to, mean to and rude to us. Before I had my kids 23 years ago, I was 5'10 and never above 140 lbs. I still remember how carefree that felt and how I didn't worry about other people. Society is cruel to overweight people. We would be treated better if we had an infectious disease. Doctors are people and I think they suffer the same societal voodoo about obesity that others do. I'm hoping that my surgeon is doing what he does because of a genuine compassion for our plight and the want to genuinely help us. Thanks for the good luck. I am nervous!
