Thinner Times is a SUPPORT FORUM......

Posted 07-23-2009 at 12:32 AM by jenrobbar951
I recently posted a comment on a newbies page telling her that her decision for gastric/lap band was a personal decision and that ONLY see could be the one to decide which would be best for her, and instead of praise, or no comment at all, I got a snide remark on how I should have listened to my PCP about why I should choose gastric and not lap band.

EXCUSE ME! I have made the choice for lap band and I have made it for me....not for any one else. I made the choice for MY reasons, not for any one elses reasons. I have done my research over the course of a year. I have read both the pros and cons for lap band and gastric bypass and based on those, and my personal goals, have made MY choice.

This forum is supposed to provide support, not belittle people for choosing one surgery over the other. It is supposed to help make people feel better during the process of pre-surgery and post surgery. To meet people who have gone through similar struggles, and successes. Not to make people feel bad for not choosing one surgery over the other. Come on now! Do we really need to make snide remarks to make ourselves feel better? If we do, then perhaps we should seek some inner peace or something.

This forum is supposed to make the weight loss process a bit less scary.....not make it more difficult. Guess some people just need to GROW UP and mind their own business. It goes back to the saying, "If you dont have anything nice to say...then dont say anything at all!"

The person who made those comments to you is a good woman. And she had serious complications and could've died because of the lapband. She's now revised to RNY. I had the lapband as well and after 5 years of extreme pain, I'm going to have it removed and getting RNY. It's possible that my body is just rejecting the lapband because it doesnt like plastic in my body. The nice thing about RNY is once it's healed, it's forever.. it doesn't need to be replaced. The lapband only has a 10 year lifespan. People aren't trying to change your mind. They just want you to listen to all sides of it so you make the best decision for you and won't have to later ask why no one told you. We told you and now it's your time to decide.
