2 Days to go

Sitting here sipping my soup, doing last minute research for my Gastric Bypass on Tuesday.

Been on a liquid diet for 7 days, and it hasn't been too bad. Lots of yummie soup, which by the way, Imagine makes a really great line of creamy organic soups. Naturally low fat and very yummie. I am enjoying the Creamy Butternut Squash Soup, tomorrow is clear liquids so I have some broths on stand by.

So far in my journey to the new me I have eliminated several things from my life.  Caffeine, Sugar, white flour, and diet pop. The diet pop was the hardest, I had physical withdraw symptoms. Every muscle in my body ached, I was light headed most of the time, and the fatigue, ohhhh the fatigue, all I wanted to do was sleep. Took a good two weeks to feel normal again. It scary the thought of something that can cause such withdraws was such a huge part of my life since I was a teenager.

Best wishes for Tuesday. I haven't yet managed the diet carbonated drinks withdrawal. Gee you have a nice short pre-op diet. My surgeon told me mine will be 4 weeks...yikes!!!!!

I gave up the sodas as well on my pre-op 6 years ago and have never looked back once you get use to not having them the taste will almost make you sick if you try them again. I only drink coffee and water nothing else taste good. Best of luck on your surgery and a quick recovery.

My surgery date is in five weeks, with the two week liquid diet coming up soon. I had not thought about soups, just trying pack enough protein drinks to get me through my work day.  Physically the caffeine part wasn't as hard as I thought it would be; I followed a suggestion to cut caffeine in half every two days. I usually had 16 oz. midday prior to quitting. However, the head part was the worst; it seems like every waking moment is focused on the fact that I cannot have a Pepsi or diet Coke. It wasn't so much a craving for the caffeine, just the knowledge I couldn't have it. I cut back early just in case my doctor asked if I had stopped, and I didn't want him to deny submission because I wouldn't follow the rules.  It won't be worth it when we can drink caffeine as carbonation is out even if you can drink it (and I know you can post-surgery as I've seen it), and I don't like coffee.

It's tough giving up stuff we've been addicted to. It's literally an addiction. Be encouraged: it does get better.

I was a coffee addict. After going through withdrawals like a junkie, I didn't feel I NEEDED it anymore. Later I found a replacement that satisfies my desire for something flavorful and hot in the morning: mocha-flavored high protein hot chocolate. There's no getting past having to endure withdrawals, but try looking for alternatives. Incidentally, real coffee is not good for your pouch. Some people do it, but it shouldn't be a regular thing, in my opinion. I know you're not a coffee drinker anyway. Good luck!

PS: Trust me when I say you're going to love the way you look and feel in the long run. It will be worth it. You've got this!

Ha, I was just posting about how I had a dream last night about Diet Pepsi. It is crazy how we can be addicted to something for so long and then it's just gone.

The crazy thing is that I don't especially like diet Pepsi, but it's in my top three sodas, diet Coke, Pepsi and diet Pepsi ... habit.

ShrinkingViolet2 - thanks. Is mocha-flavored high protein hot chocolate a concoction that you make or is it premade for purchase? Thanks.
