The Checkered Flag
Or should I say another checkpoint? Today is 6 months of WW. I did not go to every meeting due to work, etc but made most of them. I also saw my PCP this morning and he said he would have his nurse get everything together for the surgeon referral today and get it off to them. I was actually up on the scale at the docs office today. Stupid thing. They have a walker around it, kinda hoped to get a flap up on there and cheat a bit but I failed. It was a weird appointment. I went to him 6 months ago specifically asking him to work with me on the WLS thing. This morning he acted like it was his idea and was trying to talk me into it. He did his level best to find a comorbidity or two. Lots of blood tests, lots of blood pressure tracking, etc. No diabetes, No anything other than abnormal TSH levels and a slight anemia. I am really hoping the insurance company comes through here. I have BCBS of Alabama and they do have lots of info on their website, but I have not found tons of other people who have it.
On a lighter note (is such a thing possible with a 400 pound guy?) I joined a gym and a bowling league. Both are daunting to say the least. Bowling is a special challenge because I have never done it before. When I take the advice others give me and think really hard about what I am doing I usually end up nearly hurting myself (stoopid brain). I am sure it is fun to watch. As far as the gym goes I joined one of those 24 hour places and tend to go about three times a week, usually either really early in the am or late in the pm. I can avoid people that way. The extra exercise seems to have led to excess hunger though and I have gained weight and it seems I have gained too fast. We shall see I guess....
Next checkpoint is insurance approval, then psych eval?, then pre-op tests? Then surgery? Then life?

I admire your positive attitude in wanting to make healthy changes in your life. A form of exercise that I have found and LOVE is water aerobics. being in the water make moving easier, plus nobody is judging your body size. If you can look into it, i know our local hospital has a program. the first time i went I thought it would be a bunch of old ladies flapping around in the water, i was very surprised and sore the next day. we did water running and even used weights. The time goes fast and there was also fun music. Good Luck!
