First week following surgery

Posted 04-11-2008 at 03:24 PM by BabyJane
I finally had my gastric bypass surgery on Tuesday, April 8th. I felt like it took forever to get here, so many set backs and delays, but now I've made it. It's been four days and I'm feeling pretty good. The pain was the worst the day after surgery and yesterday was a little hard too, but today I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm ridiculously thirsty for some reason and just have been sipping water, tiny little baby sips, in between my scheduled drinks. Not sure why I'm feeling so thirsty. No hungry feelings though.

I'm a little concerned about the medication the surgeon gave me to take after reading on another thread that that particular medicine is very bad for bariatric patients...so this is very confusing and disturbing.

But most of all....I'm just like WOW I cant believe it's finally happened! I can't wait to get on with my life and actually maybe have one when I'm not so painfully self-conscious that I sit on the sidelines and just watch it pass me by. The prospects are all very exciting.

Congrats on your surgery!! What sort of medication did the surgeon give you? As long as it is vicodin or other acetomenophen (sp?) based it should be OK, just no nsaids or extended release or enteric coated pills. Sounds like you're doing well with sipping. I had a lot of pain post-op, too, and felt like a baby when others were saying they had almost no pain. Overall sounds like you're doing great!!
