Mild depression not a problem with authorization
Depression and anxiety are common problems with patients thinking about weight loss surgery. Nearly half of the folks coming in for surgery are on or have used antidepressants or antianxiety medications.
Most insurance companies require that each patient have a psychiatry or psychology consultation in order to qualify for surgery. If there is a problem it should be attended to before the procedure.
It's tough enough to go through the rigors of the procedure and the post op course; it really helps to have depression and anxiety controlled. It's also good to have someone to turn to when interpersonal or personal concerns arise.
Best of luck.
