I came home on a Monday and by Wednesday I was back in the hospital because of an infection . I had open RNY and was draining by my insision and it stunk !

I called the doctor and was told to come in. He had to reopen me but the infection was more than he could clean out in his office so I was readmitted. I was in there for a week , twice a day my dressing was cleaned out and had to have the infection cleaned out in the o.r. He had me on three types of antibiotic , really strong ones, and eventually I had to have a pic line put in because I was having trouble with the i.v.lines. I came home with a "wound vac" it looks like a sponge that lays in the wound and it is hooked up to a canister that sucks the infection out. It took a little over a month for me to heal up. Now he keeps checking me for a hernia. He says that with open rny there is a chance for a hernia. ( good news if it does happen ins. will usually cover your plastic surgery, tummy tuck, I have been told) WOULD I DO IT AGAIN??? In a heart beat. I am feeling so much better now. More energy, can cross my legs again ! Can chase after my grandson who is now a year old ! I only wish I had done this sooner. Hope this helps,
Sandy
