wow that does sound like quite a trainer. I don't know about muscle failure being the goal. With weight training you will gain some before you start losing because it weight more. Good thing about doing this now is that you hopefully will be in great physical shape for the surgery and since you are making exercise part of your life now after the surgery you will be able to easily incorporate excercise into your life again and lose that much quicker.
I am kind of at the same point. Waiting six months and trying to lose some 10 -15 pounds so that I can get approved.
