My surgeon is amazed at my progress and I've lost 20+ pounds in the 2 weeks since surgery. I really need some advice on what to do for protein. I think I have become lactose intolerant and that's why the whey protein, even mixed with Lactaid, is upsetting my digestive tract. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I was lactose intolerant prior to surgery, but it all hinged on amounts--I could eat small amounts of any dairy product with no problem. Once I had the surgery ANY amount of yogurt or regular milk gives me gas and/or diarrhea. Once I cut those out, I did better.
On the protein side, every source of supplemental protein gags me right out. So I have to get my protein in my food. Bluntly, I know I didn't get my protein in the first few weeks, but now that I'm on solids, I'm getting pretty good at "eating my protein first," which you'll hear a lot around here. It's all SO individual that all we can do is tell you what worked for us, and you have to try bits and pieces until you find out what will work for you.
