Seasonale is the average BCP in a different cycle. In the usual course of BCP, you take the active pill for 21-25 days then the inactive pills for about a week. During the week off, you menstrate. With Seasonale, you continue to take the active pills for 90 days straight before taking a week off to menstrate. As with any BCP, there's pros and cons. I myself use Nuva-ring which is inserted vaginally and works for 3 weeks. There's also the BCP patch, which I tried and discovered I'm sensitive to the adhesive used. I still have the scars from the blisters it caused. Any hormone based method will have some side effects. The literature states that weight gain is only mild and generally if you've been on BCP for awhile, then the side effects shouldn't be any worse than the first time you started. As for me, BCP beats the side effects of pregnancy.
