Ok so I've now been to the recall appointment. Would you believe it, I arrived at the appointed time, 1pm and presented my letter. Firstly, they could not find my notes and then I was not on the system for any appointment for today. The receptionist carried out his investigation and located my file, that was still with the Pre-assessment team so I had to wait for that to come over to the correct department; then I preceeded to wait, and wait, and wait. I was finally seen at 4.45pm. My husband was on the verge of leaving, he actually reached the door when they called my name. (He was anxious to get to work as he had taken much longer than anticipated).

I meet with a nice young registrar named AJ who went through my notes and queried issues about my PCOS, previous treatment around the PCOS and the CT scan and outcome of the scan I had back in 2003. He took some bloods which includes tumour markers. I have to call again on Monday to arrange a transvaginal ultrasound, needless to say that all of this will most certainly delay my surgery, very unlikely that I will be added to this months list, so I guess all being well I'll be getting a date for August. That being the case it looks like i'm going to miss my best friends 50th birthday celebrations.

Interestingly enough I managed to get a few key questions answered.

Dr Patel does not require his patients to do a pre-surgery diet. Reasons for this, a lot of patients find it too difficult and even then those that manage it are sometimes malnurished before surgery; or they eat small amounts and then binge nearer to surgery.

I will be given blood thinning drugs during surgery.

Pain relief will be administered immediately after surgery.

I will not be able to eat for at least 3 days after surgery, only small sips of water.

To avoid blood clots, some kind of equipment will be used on both legs to prevent blood clots. After surgery will be wearing hospital special edition tights. lol

I will not be meeting my surgeon until I've been admitted to hospital.

I will be given my food plan after surgery.

The rest I leave in the hands of Jah.

Now Hyacinth you must not worry!!!
1.The transvaginal ultrasound-well I have had a few of those-you just endure them. They are not painful or take too much time.More embarrassing than anything-but my friends don't say the same.I am such a prude!!!All it involves is having the scope inserted into your vagina so they get a clearer picture. Many overweight people need to have this method of ultrasound due to stomach fat obscuring scan image-very common when you ask around. Also usually performed by females.
2.The things they put on your legs after surgery.Sounds like what I had. They are like thin shin-pads-like soccer players wear. They inflate/deflate and massage your calves when you are in bed. When out of bed they can be removed. Most people like them as they inflate/deflate with a rythm that sort of soothes you to sleep. Also takes away that blood clot fear. The tights are just like stay up stockings-really easy to wear and comfortable.
DON"T worry!!!
