It's good that you have someone who can keep you in check during your liquid self-medication, so that it doesn't get out of control.
You might want to search TT about addiction transfer, because it seems to be very common to post-op WLS'ers. Something we all need to be aware of. However, one thing this tells you is that you are not alone. I think knowing this can make one feel quite normal, and perhaps can make the step toward this healing less difficult.
