I am currently training for a marathon and a triathlon and rest days/periods are just as critical as the exercise days. Your body needs rest to rejuvenate and repair torn muscle tissues. By continuing to exercise over and over, you keep breaking down and damaging the muscle tissues (all part of getting stronger) and if it doesn't have a chance to heal and repair, then you risk injury.

In addition, folks start out all gung-ho and then get burnt out because they feel like crud.

Congratulations on the exercise you've been doing and your motivation! That is huge. Just don't over do it, remember your rest is important and most of all... HAVE FUN!
