I worked for Vons (a Safeway Company) for nearly 10 years and just quit back in September 2008. I paid about $12/wk for the insurance but when I quit, my cobra went from a possible $600 and something dollars to nearly $900 a month. I cant believe that cobra can be raised to 1 and a half times what it would cost if you werent on cobra. Ridiculous. But you are right, it is cheaper to pay it than it is to go on a spouses plan. My husband would lose half of his paycheck to pay for insurance if he were to add me and the kids. Not worth it! I understand where you are coming from.....
