You should always do what your doctor tells you to do. The majority of physicians that have experience with the sleeve, say that NSAIDS are fine. But, you should ALWAYS take them with milk or food, never by themselves. That's what it usually says on the bottles.
I have been taking 800mg of Motrin, three times a day, for over 30 years now, without a problem. But I have never taken that medication without either milk or food.
My surgeon is part of the Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Vanderbilt University, which is a "Center of Excellence". I really do not think that they are going around telling patients to do things that could harm them.
