Long term R&Y - No complications
Hi,
Reading alot about complications at various stages and it has me depressed. So I am throwing this out here and hope to come back and read some positive long term post. Where are you all hiding ? Life so good you have no time for the internet anymore ?

I'm 5 years and have not had one problem. I'm so thankful for WLS, as it saved my life. Not everyone has complications. I have several friends that had wls the same time as me and they are all happy healthy and complication free.
There is always a risk though with any surgery. For me the risk of having a heart attack at a young age out weighed any other risk I migh have with wls.
Hope that helps a little.

Phew ..... thought there wasn't any in existence. Thanks! Make me feel better. I know four people who have done the operation R&Y and reflect what your saying here. Only one had a hernia she didn't know she had but since had it fixed.
Anyone else out there! ? ?
Also this thread is not to mock those who have suffered complications by any measure so please do not feel that.

There are a lot of people on here that have no complications, but I think I'm one of the longer out ones. Most of the friends that I have thru here that had surgery around the same time I did don't come here much anymore.

My mom had WLS back in 1991 and hasn't had any complications. She is my inspiration.

I'm 4+ and have had a few complications. Mostly related to not getting in my vitamins. The most serious problem was with chronic kidney stones (no longer an issue).
I do have two co-workers that are 5+ and haven't had any issues what-so-ever.
I did have a recent (kind of bizarre) issue a couple of months ago with an old stitch from my surgery working it's way through and into my pouch. But it's been removed (endoscope) and everything appears normal now. FWIW, I was told that this is a fluke (stitches are supposed to get absorbed).

I had a non-compliant stitch too! Except mine caused some hardcore damage. Stupid non-absorbed stitches.

Wusang: My brother-in-law moderates support group meetings for WLS people and he tells me that he finds, generally speaking, the happy people are at the meetings. I noticed the same on the boards as you have - that there are a lot of people with things that have gone wrong. I think it's good to know the potential for that. This isn't something to enter into lightly. Don't misinterpret though... even the ones who have things not go perfectly still give a ton of valuable input. AND I would bet more than the majority of them would do it all again if they turned back time and had the chance to do it or not do it.

I'm hoping I'll be one of those that makes it fine w/o complications (of course, don't we all?).. I did have some complications in the hospital (detailed in my 'personal story' thread's first few posts, if interested)... but getting close to 2 years and so far so good, other than I'm completely and utterly stuck at this weight but that can't be called a complication. Just a frustration, lol.

I am 3 years out and have had no real complications. I'm anemic, but I was anemic off and on before surgery, so that really doesn't count.
