Default 7 Years Post-Op w/Bowel Obstructions

I am new to this site and haven't had time to read all the entries. I was wondering how many members have had bowel obstructions. I was just released from the hospital after three days of agony, pain killers, starvation, etc. This is the second time I've experienced this condition and would like to hear from others who have gone through this.

I have not had that and probably will not as my procedure-a VSG-does not involve the intestines/bowel as does an RNY. If you do a search within this forum, using "complications" or "bowel obstruction", you'll be able to find who has had to deal with that. There definitely are complications along the way and many have been there before you. I'm sorry this has happened to you. Good luck to you recovering. It sounds awful...

First let me say I am sorry you have had to deal with this. I cant offer any advice as I am just pre-op....maybe will ALWAYS only be pre-op at the rate I am going....

I have another questions about Bowel Obstructions. Those of you that have had to deal with this, how much do these "repairs" usually cost to fix? Also, how long are you off of work having them fixed?

I know everyone's insurance is different...i get that. I am just looking for a ballpark idea.

Hi Janice, glad you found us and have posted your question. We can help with information and personal experience, but I suggest you copy your post and create a new thread in another section. Most people don't come to the long-term postop section, let alone the 4 year postop subforum!

You'll get more traffic, and more responses as a result, if you put your question in a new thread here:

Post-op Gastric Bypass - ThinnerTimes - Gastric Bypass and Lap BandŽ Forum

To answer your question, yes, there are others here who have gone through this. I can think of some names, but I'm not remembering the others with recent posts about their obstructions. I'm sorry I don't remember The people who have had it are:

Kelly (jerseygrl684)
Julie (JumboJulie)

Here is just one thread with complications. There are more here.

Complications

Post in the other section and I KNOW you'll get more "me too" posts. I sure hope this is the last one you have to deal with!

I've had 3 and I'm working on obstrution number 4. The first one ended up being 2 emergency surgeries 4 days to resolve that issue. I wrote about it in 'Complications.'

I feel badly for just about anyone going thru a bowel obstruction--they are beyond gnarly!

OMG! I thought two obstructions was horrible... The first obstruction kept me walking the floors for almost 8 hours before I started vomiting and couldn't fight the pain and ended up in the ER. This time, it came on me so suddenly that within 1 hour I had collapsed on my livingroom floor and had to be taken in by ambulance. They found three areas in my intestines that were dilated and inflamed. I hope it never happens again and, if it does, that I can keep avoiding the surgery. Thanks for the reply! Good luck!
