I will be having it done in Champaign, Illinois. The way the dr explained it to me was...there is a special tool that will be used to pinch the edges of the stoma together making 'pleats.' Which will decrease the size of the opening. The ROSE is more precise in making these pleats, the stomaphyx is not as precise in the ability to grab and make the pleats. This is all done through the mouth-there are no incisions.

Here is more info I stole off a website....

Who is eligible?
Patients who originally lost significant weight following gastric bypass but who now find themselves regaining weight may be ideal candidates for this procedure. After an initial screening, you will undergo a series of evaluations including nutritional and dietary counseling, a full medical exam, and endoscopy to determine if you are a good candidate.

What does the ROSE procedure entail?

The ROSE procedure is performed with the patient under anesthesia using a four-channel tube and special Incisionless Surgery tools. The bariatric surgeon advances the flexible tube and a small endoscope through the patient's mouth, into the stomach pouch. The surgeon will then insert the surgical tools through the channels of the tube. Tissue anchors are used to create multiple tissue folds around the stoma to reduce the diameter. The surgeon will then use the same technique to place anchors in the stomach pouch to reduce its volume.

I had my surgery almost 7 years ago and have gained back 15 lbs in the past year and I have no idea how! I haven't changed my eating habits but I have slacked off on the exercising. Don't beat yourself up... Heck, if we didn't have difficulty losing weight in the first place, would we have had the surgery?? There are days that I want to cry but I look at myself in the mirror and remember how I looked 7 years ago ... the HBP, fatigue, lack of confidence, back pain, lack of sex appeal, etc. and I think "I can lose the 15 lbs and WILL". You will, too. Hang in there and keep your spirits high. You have friends here. Anyone who criticizes you forgets why they are here in the first place. If there was an easier way, we all would have taken it!

Hi Ryn! Please don't beat yourself up....I think everyone has the potential to go up in weight, so don't feel like you are alone. I've been battling my own issues with this as well and I know we're not the only ones!

Glad you have things in the works and hope things turn around for the better soon!

Take care and keep us updated!

Hi Ryn

Welcome back! I remember you well - you were a great source of guidance and inspiration to me when I had my surgery 3 years ago.

I haven't been on here in absolutely ages but felt the need to come back today as I am also starting to re-gain. I have gone up 14lbs since my lowest and it is scaring me to death!

I know exactly why it has happened - lots of stress, very little exercise and the odd bad food habit sneaking in.

I hope you can work your way through this and perhaps we could do it together?

xx

I'll be honest I haven't poked around too much in other threads. But, if everyone is as caring as those who have responded to my post, I really need to make an effort to come back and be a part of the forum. I know when I came back about a year ago, when I had started putting the weight on, it was a very negative vibe, and I hadn't even posted. I really didn't need to be berated or shamed. I do that enough myself. I really want to thank y'all for being so caring at this time.

Personally, I'm *thrilled* to have someone that has BTDT back here and posting! And if it means shereeks gets back to posting, that's a double good thing!

How have things been for you since you first posted?

Me? Well it's only been a few days. I have been really watching my intake. I am not eating meals really. I am really listening to my body according to my hunger. I feel like I am able to do that now that I am not crying every 5 seconds, lol. I am not real good with meal planning. I do better if I eat the same things each day. I have been doing protein shakes, yogurt, meat and cheese for the most part. I have lost 7 lbs.

I know I have issues with certain friends and food. She had the band and has lost close to nothing. I think we justify eating the wrong foods as long as the other does it with us. She came over last night with cookies and I had been doing so good. I ate a couple then felt horrible, I feel like as long as I am alone I am good.

I am looking at September for the Rose and I am trying to mentally prepare my body for not relying on food for anything other than fuel. I am a true addict and need something to focus on that is not food. I go back to work in a week, so I know I need a way to deal with the stress that isn't running to the secretary saying, "do you have any chocolate?"

I think we all have certain people that we can indulge without feeling guilty, because we're not alone. But don't beat yourself up over a little bump in the road ~ don't forget that you did great earlier!

I heard a great analogy... it was something like if we are driving along on the highway and miss our exit, we don't go all the way back to the beginning to start over ~ we simply get off at the next exit and turn around to get back on track.... so if you can look at one moment, for just that, then you can be proud for all the good things you did before.

Yes, you! I think it's a really good thing for us to hear and a good learning lesson for those of us who are at a point in our journy where we aren't dumping and can eat 'whatever' and what not.. I am grateful I have you here, sharing this road you're traveling on right now.

Hopefully, the support you find here helps you, too in finding a way to deal with that stress. Have you thought of ways you can minimize the need to have the chocolate? What are your triggers?

Oh I like that analogy so much! Thank you.
