Default Long Term Post-Op Question

Hi,

I had my surgery Jan. 2004. The last month or so I have not been feeling well after meals, I appear to be "dumping" after every meal. My meals are very little in quantity and healthy but yet every time I eat something I feel awful. For example, I had 2oz of peanut butter crackers and I had the rapid heart beat, flushed feeling, and then diarrhea. Just tonight for dinner I was afraid it would happen again so I ate only 1oz of chicken and 1oz of salad and it happened. I have lost 6lbs in the last two months. I am not eating hardly at all because I am afraid of dumping.

I take B-50 and iron in the a.m. and a multi and beta carotene at lunch. I force myself to eat so I can take the vitamins but no matter what I eat I feel sick!

Any advice?

I use to be able to eat 1 protein bar (if needed) but I am now dumping with that as well so I have cut it down to half a bar and I eat that half over a 30 minute period so I won't get sick.

I wonder if your stoma has stretched so that the foood you're eating is going into your small intestine to rapidly. Also, a small percentage of people develop reactive hypoglycemia post op. Definitely something you should talk to your doctor about...I'm curious to know what they say.

I'd call the surgeon ASAP. It's possible you may have developed an ulcer at the "join" site. Or, you could have a stricture. Or an obstructed bowel. Regardless of what it is, you need to see your surgeon ASAP. Only being able to eat such a tiny amount (and then getting sick) is abnormal when you're so far out.

How was the salad made? Dressing? How was the chicken prepared?

When this happens to me, and it does rarely, I go back to basics. Soups, Soft Diet then back to regular food. A week each at a time. Totally works for me. try basics for a day or two and if the problem persists, see somebody.

Same here. (But I don't think the original poster is even around the forum, so who knows if they'll read it!)

LMAO I didnt see if this was from October. I hope the guy was okay and his issues resolved. I have been okay for a week, but 2 weeks before I had horrible nausea after I would eat, I would dry heave most of the time and barf too. It was weird, I was wondering if I was getting an ulcer ...... then it went away. Weird!
