I'm not sure about the school thing but I'm sure they can help you work something out. As far as travel, I was told no driving for two weeks. Other than that I had no travel resrtictions. I would say you need about 4 to 6 weeks of recovery before driving that far. That is just an opinion, you should ask your doc and see what he has to say.
