HI Johnny!
Congrats on making your mind up on getting the surgery. I hope that it goes well for you. I am about two months out post op now. Here is my regular diet

Morning: I start out with my protein shake, I was told by my dr. that I can not supplement a meal for a shake. I drink this on my way to work.

Morning: After my 40 min drive and my shake is down. I have a low fat yogurt, and usually a piece of string cheese. Not to crazy about either but again it is conditioning in your mind that you are eating just for fuel for your body.

Lunch: Again a yogurt, maybe a half a sandwich made with turkey or low fat ham. Something like that.

Dinner: Lean Beef (I particularly love steaks), chicken or fish. Mind you I can only eat about 4-8 small bites and I am full. I just started adding a veggie, and usually a small piece of baked potato. I can eat two asparagus spears, a small bit of beef, and a bite or two of potatoes.
Another one of my favorites is tacos. Low fat cheese, and beef used. I can eat one small taco and I watch the shells to, I try to pick ones with LOTS of protein. I also add a little Ortega taco sauce, MILD, and I have been able to handle it just fine.

I am supposed to be eating three meals a day and no snack. But I get hungry at night. My. dr does not want you snacking because for most people that is why they got to this point. I am not and never have been a huge snacker. I find myself hungry at night since I am eating so little during the day. I like to eat the baked lay potato chips (maybe 8-10 of them) with melted reduced fat shredded cheese, and I take one or two jalapeno slices and dice them up and put one piece on eat chip. This makes for a YUMMY snack and I find it very satisfying. Keep in mind I am OK with jalapenos for now. Some people can not tolerate spicy food at all.

As far as getting sick goes. I will admit, I have been sick a few times. When you eat slowly, you know within 5-10 minutes if something will agree with you or not. That is why it is important to eat slow especially in the beginning. Honestly I find that when in stressful situations I get sick (at the horrible aunt's home on Christmas that you can not stand). The other times that I have gotten sick, it has mostly been on breads, and cheaper ones. I find that if I stick with higher quality bread and toast it, I am fine. By overall I try to avoid them if at all possible. Just remember Low Sugar, Low Fat, High protein and you will be fine! :O)

PS... My Fav protein shake is (unjury.com) 1 scoop of unflavored unjury, and half scoop of Low Carb Mocha drink from low-carb.com (bigtrain brand), and 8 oz of skim milk. :O)
