The lapband also has problems, slippage of the band, and port problems, etc.. neither way is perfect..
For me, the idea of a port that always is there was a HUGE negative. The fact that on average, a person with a lapband loses less of the excess weight than one with GBP was also a negative for me. Always having to have the doc fiddle with the fills and trying to find the right one.. the fact that it is far easier to sabotage oneself with the lapband vs. the GBP was another negative. Then in my own personal search, I found too many people who've had the band and then had a revision to the full GBP which just pushed me over to the RNY GBP right from the start.
