I had a stricture at 3.5 months out, an easy repair as an outpatient. Have felt great all the way through, and so glad I made the decision I did. (If there were days when I felt crappy, I don't remember -- for me this was a blessing).

Having said this, it is YOUR decision, and the ONLY way you can be successful is if you totally embrace this for what it is - a tool that you will have forever as you totally change your lifestyle regarding eating. It isn't magic, it's a tool. And with any intrusive surgery such as this, there is a risk for some level of complications.

My suggestion is that you discuss this factor with your surgeon - he/she will give you a much clearer sense of what you can expect.
