As you progress farther on this journey you will be able to start using healthier alternatives to things like rice, pasta, etc. I'm at my goal weight and yes, I do eat brown rice, wild rice, whole wheat pasta but there was no way I would have had those early out. Actually I couldn't even tolerate them until I was more like year postop. Even now at 2 years postop I have a hard time with rice, bread, pasta. I can do it in small amounts but anything more fills me up really quick.
The general rule is really to limit your carb intake early out. Most people will find that carbs will trigger something in them and it causes them to crave the carbs even more. It's a dangerous rollercoaster to put yourself on. Also things like pasta, rice, breads...they will swell in your pouch and there won't be any room for the protein you need. You need to remember that it is protein first then if there is any room at all you can add in some vegetables, if you STILL have room (which you probably won't) then a few bites of healthy carbs or a little fruit. For myself I usually opt for the fruit in place of the carbs but that is me.
Hope that helps.
