Regarding being active, I was walking the floor the day of my surgery, had to walk every hour at the hospital until I was released (including at night -- the nurse would wake me up to check my vitals and make me walk!).

My written instructions were to walk at least 5 minutes per hour, every waking hour, starting the day I was released.

You need to be as active as possible to avoid blood clots!
