3 1/2 years and still down 200+ pounds. I fluctuate within a 8 pound range but I get myself back on track and it comes off. Loving life and all that it has to offer and pursuing my dreams!

I've had a year of health issues directly and indirectly associated with my wls. I've landed back in the hospital 4 times since May of '08, 2 times in surgery, 1 time with a drain into my bile system thru my side for 7 weeks to resolve a stricture in my common bile duct, and the most recent hospitalization showed up a large ulcer that was being compromised by the blood thinner they had me on for the clot in my liver vein. It's kind of been a long and trying year. I'm kind of getting tired of not feeling well. But shit sometimes happens. I just take each situation as it comes and try to bring something good out of it.

My newest mission is to advocate for the long-term wls who comes into the hospital. Once I get off the bariatric floor I realize how unwls friendly the hospital is. They don't understand my nutritional needs, viamins regima, proper amounts forms and dosages and I see room for change. My previous hospitalization changed the protocol for the CT Scan prep. I was thrilled with my last CT, last week that they were no longer making the bariatric patients take the full prep. They had gotten rid of the RediCat they previously used and I was thrilled. That stuff had made me SO sick. Now it was actually tolerable. Kind of excited to see what changes may come out of this most recent hospitalization. I've already emailed a list of concerns and suggestions to the director of the bariatric unit and he promises to be bringing them up in discussion.

I just figure if I have to sit in the hospital for 5 days I should make waves and that is what I'm doing.

Hello familiar and friendly faces!!!

I am 4.5 years post op, keeping the weight off with in a 5-10 pound range for a total of 120- 130 pounds off depending on life and my choices.

What I know is that "carbs" are my down fall, my body loves to hang on to them, also exercises is crucial and having the knee injury I have has made it harder, but not impossible to keep the weight off.

My rules to live by remain the same:
1. Proteins first followed by veg and fruits...always!!
2. Don't drink when you eat.
3. Never deprive your self, have one bite of anything you can control.
4. Learn to say "no", and obey yourself.
5. Love yourself enough to choose healthy.......

and the most inmportant one of all....SUPPORT GROUPS!!!!!

Thats what works for me!!!

Would I do it again....maybe not.....SURPRISED????

Well the reason I say maybe not, is that what I have learned is what made me lose weight. How to eat, and that I could survive on such little calories and the food choices I could have made. I never realized that I had the power to change my life and to make these changes. Until Gastric Bypass, so "now" that I "know" that it was always in me, and if I had that knowledge then maybe I would not do it again, but I am glad, blessed and grateful that I did it!!!!

I'm just about 4.5 years out too. I have fluctuated about 10 pounds since my absolute lowest.

I'd do surgery again in a heartbeat, though it still can be a struggle with food I just have a better way to keep in check.

LisaBoston checking in. Still maintaining weight, 3 1/2 years out...wow has it really been that long?

Challenges for me: keeping the carbs down, keeping up the exercise and remembering to check in with my peeps!

Default Almost 7 years

I'm coming up on my 7 year anniversary in October. I found TT 2 years ago, and boy do I wish I'd had TT's information and support before then!

Like a lot of you, I'm off and on with my activity here. Many times I'm just here to pass on advice and encouragement, mostly because I remember how little support I had postop (more like ZERO support, especially from my husband at the time). It made things challenging for me, so I have a heart for others. Oh, and I like to help educate, so I selfishly post to fulfill my own needs.

I don't know about the rest of you, but sometimes I wonder just how welcome I am here. Not that I'm fishing for compliments, I'm just saying that's how I feel.

While I AM out there and enjoying postop life and better health, I still need to be plugged in here. It keeps me current on the rapidly changing research information about WLS, and it helps me feel less alone with my unique tiny tummy (and sagging skin!). I only know 1 WLS person IRL, and I met him here on TT.

I've never regretted my decision to have WLS. It's done a lot for me. Things like:
Reduced my chronic pain from a permanently screwed up spinal condition-doc says I'd be in a wheelchair without WLS;
Given me a way to overcome the "heritage of obesity" my family passed on to me;
Made me a good influence and healthy role model for my teenage daughter...in MANY ways;
Taught me that with WORK I can control my weight. I never had the mastery before WLS;
Given me self-confidence and OPTIONS when it comes to choosing men-I pick now;
Given me a VOICE;

and I could go on and on but this is already a long post!
