From what I've seen the biggest issues are this:

Lap band:
Pros: adjustable for your needs, can eat anything you want.
Cons: lose weight slower than GBP because food you eat is still absorbed - expect 1-3 lb loss per week, may require replacement after 10-15 years, will not work unless you go to your drs appointments to get FILLS every few months until you hit the restriction level that's comfortable for you, easy to sabotage yourself - you can drink water with your meal and overeat.

GBP:
Pros: fast weightloss, doesn't physically allow you to eat a lot of fat/sugar so it's harder to sabotage yourself.
Cons: harder to reverse, requires special foods, dumping, risk of complication that may require second surgery.

You need to think about what you're comfortable with and what's best for your needs. We're all different. For some, the lap band is enough to wake them up and whip them into shape, for others, they need GBP cause it's a drastic intervention that FORCES them to eat well. It's a personal decision that can only be made by you.
