Like the others said, even a private room will be loud. The hallway noise is always loud, and monitors are going off everywhere. Last time I was in the hospital, I always asked the nurses, aides, etc to close my door when they left the room...otherwise they left it open and the room was noisier. Buy some of those foam earplugs...you can find them at a drugstore. An ipod is good too, but sometimes you just don't feel like listening to music. I had a hell of a withdrawal headache after having morphine for 2 or 3 days (not WLS, something else), and would have killed for a pair of earplugs. By the time my hubby finally brought them to me, the headache had finally went away. Oh, and a eye mask would have been wonderful to have too, for napping during the day when the blinds didn't quite shut out enough light. Like I said, the morphine withdrawal really did a number on me, and I had a bad headache with sensitivity to light and noise. (I don't think morphine is supposed to do that to you after just having it for a short time, but my body is weird, lol.)
