I used ear plugs, and a damp washcloth over my eyes at all times.

I'm like you.. no tv... quiet & dark is my preference. I wish they gave you an option to be in a room with or without a TV..

Personally, I think it is insane to have TV's in a room where there are more than one person in the room...horrid, horrid concept.
