Nisa will be having bilateral mastectomy
We saw the surgeon today, and she agreed with Nisa's decision to have a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction. It's pretty much like a "Prophylactic mastectomy". Donna - yes, they will be doing sentinel node biopsies on both sides during the surgery - and take the appropriate action when they get the results. It's amazing what they can accomplish during a surgical procedure today.
We expect to see the plastic surgeon later this week. In California, insurance companies are required by law to provide reconstruction or implants for breast cancer patients.
Were not sure if they will do both procedures at once. If they do, it will take about 10 hours, 2 for the mastectomy, and 8 for the plastic surgery. If they do just the mastectomy, she will be in the hospital for at least a day. The reconstruction, she will be there for about 3 or four days.
Yes, it's overwhelming right now, but at least we have a better understanding of what we are facing. I know I say "we", when it's Nisa that is going through this, but for me, we are going through this together. Her pain is my pain.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and support.
