For both my surgeries, open RNY and my revision, I bought sleeve-less nightgowns, cut them at the seam on the shoulders and sew(ed) velco so I could step into them and then fasten the velco and not bother the IV, etc. I still wear the ones from my revision a year ago, the first ones have long gone by the way side, but I was greatful to have them. Both my stays were 4 & 5 days. I was never so glad to get back to my own bed! Usually, you won't be able to wear panties let alone jamie bottoms with the cath. They usually take care of it soon though. I can't remember if it was the same day as surgery or the next, sorry. Wishing you the best luck.
