Until I spoke with the woman at the IRS number, I had never heard or read that your return had to "post", whatever that means, before you would receive your rebate. She said that it takes about 6 weeks from the date you filed. You return posts approximately 30 days from when you file and then it takes another two weeks to process the direct deposit. If you're receiving a paper check, it will be even longer. I searched the IRS site and all the automated options on their 800 number and never saw this information. After holding for over an hour, I finally spoke with a human being at the IRS and she gave me this information. She said that she had the same problem! She file April 14 thinking she would be good and then they found out that it takes a month to post. She works for the freakin' IRS and she didn't know! Ugh! Government! Anyway, I know it's free money and I shouldn't have counted on it, but we really were.
