I'm pre-op
I was on the birth control patch for about 2 years and developed blood clots in my lungs last year. (very serious) So neadless to say I cannot go on ANY form of birth control pill. My doctor wanted me to get an IUD. SO I went to the appointment thinking this would be great. Dont have to worry about taking a pill..blah blah. Any-who...A different GYN was going to put it in. He explained that it might be a little uncomfortable because I havent had any childern. OK WOW. A LITTLE??? I have never felt pain like that before in my life. The nurse laughed at me and said to me...you just got a taste of childbirth! I bow down to all the mothers out there!!! Well I couldnt do it, he never finished. So I talked to the doctor about other options. Being my blood clot history, going to have major surgery, and then the new pouch. He said the best bet would be after surgery (so I dont run the risk of getting a clot during surgery) I should go with the Deppo shot. It has a different hormone that doesnt cause blood clots AND its injected so absorbtion isnt a problem.
Long story short...If you havent had childern yet an IUD is a bad idea!!!! For love of all that is holly!!!!
