I have had an iud since my youngest was born 5 years ago (I'm 1 year out). I have a copper-T which is non-hormonal. I would recommend it to any one. I will say though that I have had several friends who have not had surgery get IUD's (both the copper and mirena one) and their periods have gotten worse. I didn't know that it was a possibility but one or two have gotten to the point where they had their IUD removed because their periods became very very heavy and long with cramping. I don't know what the percentage of people this happens to is but it's something that you should probably know going into getting one. But again that said I LOVE mine and don't plan on getting rid of my IUD except to get another one when this one needs to be replaced.
