Default Why do they tell us to wait?

So I'm sure that I should know this already, but why do the doctors tell us to wait 12-24 months before getting pregnant? My doctor says to wait 18 months, but why? Is it so that we obtain our weight goal or so we can stabliize?

I'm almost 11 months post-op and my DH are anxious to start a family, but I'm leary of trying since I'm not sure why they tell us to wait a certain amount of time.

I have lost all the weight that I'd wanted to and am working on maintaining at ~160. Currently I'm +/- 2 pounds from 160 depending on the day and I feel great. I just don't want to rush into anything if there are significant risks.

Does anyone have any thoughts or info to share?
