I have diabetes too and here's what happened for me that caught me by surprise.. going into surgery my level was 160 - high but not too high.. coming out for the next 48 hours they were over 300 and they had to give me insulin (which I have never taken before!) however, they told me it was the trauma of the surgery that instigated that. From a week out my levels have been dropping dramatically - without meds - 130's then 124 and now 103 even after I eat.. I am glad I did it and I would do it again in a heartbeat... there is a lot of media fuss atm about how rny seems to have great outcomes for diabetics (not same data for lap band btw) and that is the MAIN reason I ended up choosing bypass over lap band..
I read a lot of the stuff out there that's negative too - it's good to be informed... having a good doc with a good track record; following the plan religiously (ie: food plan); and getting a lot of support seems to me the best way to avoid most of the pitfalls people go on about... it's a huge commitment, make sure you're ready because it is a door you walk through that closes forever behind you.
keep posting and let us know how you're doing
