I was told no gum just in case you swollow it. But if you do, and it gets stuck, it's not that big a deal ... they just stick something down your throat to pluck it out. Maybe that other surgeon said you would have to have "open abdominal surgery" just to scare you???
I was also told no citrus. I understand it can irritate the new pouch. But does this mean I can't have it EVER?
I was told no grapes for a year. Why? I have no clue.
Anyone else heard of this?!

Re the gum: I don't know if she told me this to scare me or not.. but I'm a notorious gum swallower, and I'm not willing to take a chance. She was very specific about it being a cause for landing in the OR should I do that.. I'm just not willing to test that little tidbit of information to see if it's true or not.
Re the citrus: I was told not to eat any of the white part of the membranes from the citrus, but the fruit itself was okay.. I just needed to cut that off meticulously.
Re the grapes: I dunno, grapes were given as an 'okay' if I tolerated it.. I've had some, I just make sure I chew well, and if I have any problem with any portion of the skin, I spit that part out.
I don't make either of them a habit in my diet, due to the sugars and my being diabetic but I've had them on occasion. Last time I had a bit of orange, my pouch didn't like it much and started to ache.. that was after just two small sections.
I've also swiped a small bit of popcorn from Geof on occasion as well with absolutely no ill effects other than my wanting more, LOL.
