Wow. I'm sorry to hear this. We all have to deal with so many changes as we go along after surgery. But that just sounds terrible.

Here's a thought. Instead of waiting for the ice to melt, try this.
Fill a measuring cup with the ice you use. Then take another measuring cup full of water. Pour the water into the cup of ice until it's full. Subtract the ounces of water added to the ice. Now you know exactly what a cup of ice amounts to.
