Get fitted! It is the best way to run in comfort and prevent injury. Be willing to spend a little more on these shoes as your running shoes are your main protection from injury.

Go to a running specific store (Road Runner is great, but I don't think you have one near you) and have them fit you based on your running style, weight and shoe size. Most general sports stores do not have qualified people to get you fitted into the right shoe.

As a 4E shoe wearer myself, stay away from Nike - they only make a couple of wide shoes and they aren't supportive enough. I personally have always liked New Balance or Asics, but that is a personal preference. New Balance makes great wide shoes - I personally use the 1223's because the extensive cushioning and distance training focus.

Good luck!
