I haven't felt that way, at least not yet. However, I have been on the other end of that conversation and I was EXTREMELY offended by a random person coming up to me and suggesting that I look into it (a month after I had had it done). I wasn't offended at the idea of the surgery as obviously I had it done. I was offended that a person who did not no me or anything about my life felt that they could come up to me and comment on my weight and how I "should do something about it." I did research on the surgery for 5 years before I had it and I am still at a BMI where today I would be a candidate for surgery, but I just don't feel anyone has the right to make an unsolicited comment about something so personal.
While I understand your feeling to share with this person, I doubt that he is unaware of his obesity. There are stories about WLS in the media (both positive and negative) to the point where I doubt this person hasn't heard of it The other thing is, you don't know his personal situation- maybe he doesn't have insurance (many low-wage jobs don't), or maybe it is not covered by his insurance. I dunno, it's just my two cents, but I wouldn't bring it up unless it comes up in conversation.
